Off The Page Applications Reminder
Only two weeks left! It’s time to apply to one of the Fed’s most popular projects,
the Off The Page writers-in-school program. If you are a member in good standing
and have recently published work in books, anthologies, magazines, periodicals or
websites, you may be eligible. Fill out the web-form application located on our website
http://www.bcwriters.com/off_the_page.php by December 1, 2008, and don’t forget to
include a writing resume or list of recent publications, and a brief biography. Please do
not send attachments or images to the Fed office–simply fill out the form and your
information will be forwarded to our OTP committee in early December. If your
application is accepted by the committee, you will organize a reading, workshop or
presentation at a school of your choice in spring 2009, and you will be paid $200 by
the Federation of BC Writers. In addition, participants receive a dedicated webpage
on the Fed website. This will give let teachers in your area know you are available for
additional bookings. Keep in mind that we receive far more applications than we are
able to fund so fill out the OTP application forms with the most pertinent information.

The Federation has set up an online member directory listing all current members
and links to their blogs or websites. It’s a work-in-progress and there are names and
links to be added but take a moment to visit: http://www.bcwriters.com/online.php.
If we’re missing a link to your personal blog or website (sorry, but we can not link to
other organizations), let us know. Send your URL to bc*******@sh**.ca
BC BookWorld

December 1. Please notify us of any address changes by November 27.
Welcome New Board Members
The Federation board and staff are pleased to welcome two Federation members to
the FBCW board. Website events editor Margo Lamont has stepped into the
Secretary position while local writer Mette Bach has accepted the position of
Treasurer. Their experience and enthusiasm will be an asset to our board! The
position of Vice President is still open. Interested Fed members may contact the office
at 604-683-2057 for more information.
Federation Website
From time to time, I check the website visit stats on the Federation website–and
by golly! (and I never use “by golly” in normal conversation unless I’m terribly
shocked), you folks aren’t checking out the Press Room & Market pages as often as
you should. Did you know we maintain a regularly updated list of international ezines,
periodicals and journals http://bcwriters.com/l_journals.php, a comprehensive list of
Canadian publishers http://bcwriters.com/publishers.php, a smashing compendium
of literary blogs and websites http://bcwriters.com/blogs.php and so much more?!
Well, by golly, now you know.
