­­­­­­­ Writing Courses­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ Inlet/s: Opening the Poetic Door For writers of all levels wanting to explore ‘inlet’ as an entry to open up their writing to risk-taking and other possibilities. In this course we will look at creating tone, working with various writing forms, pushing boundaries and the editing process. Participants will write a poem and discuss the work in each session. Our focus will be on play, process and production. 8 Sessions. Monday, 7:00 – 9:00 pm. September 22 – November 17, 2008 Cost – $80. False Creek Community Centre or 8 Sessions. Tuesday, 7:00 – 9:30 pm. September 23 – November 18, 2008 Cost – $108. Coal Harbour Community Centre Shaping Stanzas: On Poetic Form For writers interested in learning about various poetic forms. In this course we will look at a range of traditional and non-traditional poetic forms and discover through reading and writing how they can be mixed with your own imagination and voice to create fresh work. Participants will write a poem and discuss the work in each session. 8 Sessions. Thursday, 7:00 – 9:30 pm. September 25 – November 13, 2008 Cost – $108. Coal Harbour Community Centre Instructor – Joy Russell Poet, playwright and writer, Joy Russell’s work has appeared or is forthcoming in The Capilano Review, Crab Orchard, The Best of Canadian Poetry in English, 2008, The Fire People, IC3: The Penguin Book of New Black Writing in Britain and Bluesprint: Black British Columbian Literature and Orature.
