New Regional Rep Appointed
We’re pleased to report that Lorraine Murphy has been appointed by the board to the
position of Lower Mainland/Sunshine Coast regional representative. Lorraine is the author
of Terminal City: Vancouver’s Missing Women and a former Small Business Columnist at
Business in Vancouver newspaper and Occupational Pursuit magazine. As one of the
cornerstone volunteers in the WordPress.com technical help forums, she has experience
helping beginning bloggers develop fluency and achievement online. Lorraine has been
blogging for many years, and her flagship blog, raincoaster, is ranked in the top 20,000
blogs in the world. She looks forward to sharing her skills and knowledge with Fed members
in the year ahead and will be contacting her regional members next week with a letter of
introduction along with local news and events.
Bowen Island Festival
Write on Bowen! This popular festival for readers and writers takes place next weekend,
July 11 to 13 but there’s still time to register for events or workshops. Check out their website
at http://www.biac.ca/writersfestival for information on workshops, events and panel
presentations, then register using their handy online form (you can pay using Visa or Paypal).
Festival-goers can choose from eight exciting workshops and three panel presentations. Topics
include screenplay writing, memoir writing, poetry for youth, publishing options, lyric writing,
freelance writing, sourcing your inspiration, and poetry writing. Workshops cost just $20.00 for
members of the Bowen Island Arts Council (BIAC) and $25.00 for non-members. Panel
presentations are free!
Post Road Magazine Contest
Deadline: July 15
Post Road Magazine seeks quality fiction and poetry for writing contest. $1000 prize for each
winner. Submission fee: $15 for each story up to 5000 words, or for each set of three poems.
