Happy Canada Day!!! We hope you have been enjoying the sunshine as much as we have. Everywhere you go there are people out smiling, enjoying events and just being here. I haven’t been sending anything out for a bit just for sheer lack of time but I am back on the ball and so if you have anything you want to get out send it now. We will be offering a workshop with Jen Currin in August. If you know Jen then you will want to hurry and sign up as she is a great instructor as well poet. See below for details. Come and check it out. Bonnie Pandora’s Events Free Verse in August: A Poetry Class Join us for an intimate (8 students maximum) four-week poetry course. The focus will be on helping each poet hone her/his voice and explore a series of themes. We will play with imagery, line break, rhythm, diction/syntax, etc. Each class will include invigorating writing exercises, reading and discussion of some of the great poems of our time, and sharing work with the group. At the end of the course, each poet will turn in a short portfolio (6-10 pages) for individual feedback from the teacher. The course will be conducted by Jen Currin and held at her house. Tea provided. Four Wednesdays, August 6-27, 7-10 p.m. Cost: $160 per participant About the teacher: A Vancouverite for six years, Jen Currin grew up in Portland, Oregon and has lived in Boston, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, and Tempe, AZ, among other places. Jen received a BA from Bard College and an MFA from Arizona State University. She currently teaches creative writing at Vancouver Film School, for Langara College’s Continuing Studies Program, and online for Johns Hopkins. Her work has been published in many journals, including The Fiddlehead, VERSE, Washington Square, The Massachusetts Review, Carousel, Event, and CV2. Jen has published two books of poems: The Sleep of Four Cities (Anvil Press) and Hagiography (Coach House Books). Once in a while, he writes poetry in Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi languages. He has also written and published book reviews, research papers on writers and on world peace.
