Federation of BC Writers Workshop
Memoir Munchies: Memory in Bits & Nibbles
Instructor: Betsy Warland of The Writers Studio (SFU)
Saturday, June 28, 1 to 5 pm.
Alliance for Arts & Culture Boardroom, Suite 100 – 938 Howe Street
Like munchies, memory comes to us in bits & nibbles. For those interested in writing
memoir or who are in the midst of writing a memoir, the narrative material itself can
seem insatiable! In this workshop we will look at ways your lived experience can best
inform you about how to access story-building; how to identify your memoir’s specific
writing process, and how to discover a form that recreates your lived experience to
satiate your readers. Applicable devices of fiction and contemporary trends in memoir
will also be discussed. Participants may submit up to five pages of a work-in-progress
to the instructor, Betsy Warland, prior to the workshop for written feedback. This will
assist her in customizing the workshop and providing specific advice tailored to the needs
of the participants. To regiser, email bc*******@sh**.ca by June 20. Class size limited
to 12 participants. Cost is $75 and includes light refreshments and written feedback on
writing sample.
