2008 Moving Lives Forward Scholarships Eli Lilly Canada, BC Schizophrenia Society and Mood Disorders Association of BC (MDA) are offering the Moving Lives Forward Scholarships to help people with a severe and persistent mental illness – bipolar, schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder – reintegrate into society. We want to offer financial assistance for both academic and vocational opportunities in which students can work to acquire the training necessary to secure a meaningful job. The Lilly – BCSS/MDA Moving Lives Forward Scholarship will be effective for Fall 2008-Spring 2009
school year only. Applicants must be planning to attend school in the 2008/09 school year.

The goal of the Moving Lives Forward Scholarship, offered by Eli Lilly Canada, the
BC Schizophrenia Society and the Mood Disorders Association of BC, is to help people
acquire the educational and vocational skills necessary to reintegrate into society,
secure jobs and regain their lives.

Eligibility:
You do not need to be a member of the Mood Disorders Association of BC
or the BC Schizophrenia Society to be considered eligible for a scholarship.
Eligible applicants must:
●� Be diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness:
schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or schizoaffective disorder
●� Be receiving medical treatment for the illness, including medication and
psychiatric care
●� Submit an application package that includes:
1. A completed application form **
2. A letter – no more than 3 double-spaced typed pages
3. Recommendation forms from 2 references**

Eligible Programs:
The scholarship is designed to offer financial assistance for a wide range of educational
opportunities in which students work to attain a certificate or degree from an accredited
institution.
●� High School Equivalency programs
●� Community College, Trade or Vocational School programs
●� Bachelor or Graduate degrees
NOTE: Non-credit, online or home study courses are not covered under the scholarship

Criteria:
The applications will be judged by a committee using the following criteria:
●� Completion of applicant requirements
●� Submission of letter describing your career and study goals. Your experiences and learning
to cope with a mental illness may also be included. The letter should be no more than three,
double-spaced, typed pages.
●� 2 Reference Forms
NOTE: Interviews may be requested.
