COME TO AN EXCITING EXHIBITION OF ORIGINAL PAINTINGS INSPIRED BY THE WORKS OF TWO LOWER MAINLAND POETRY GROUPS
Where: Tsawwassen Longhouse Gallery at 1710 – 56th Street in the Village of Tsawwassen adjacent to the Recreation Centre with ample free parking. Bus stop across the street.
Why: To hold a collaborative show with members of the South Delta Artists Guild and poets from both “Pandora’s Collective” and “World Poetry” societies in Vancouver. Poems and images were individually drawn from sealed envelopes by participants from which they had to produce either a poem or painting and each painting will be exhibited next to the relevant poem, both with the same title. There will be close to 80 paintings and poems on display. This is a premier event in the Tsawwassen art community with many poets and artists in attendance where they will gladly discuss their works. All paintings are original and for sale for the duration of the show. This is a rare opportunity for the public to interact with two art forms at the same time and in the same venue making it an event well worth attending.

Hello, writers and readers, I wanted to let you know that my course on writing stories from your life is being offered again at Mollie Nye House, starting Thursday, April 3 and running to May 8. Last fall the first participants and I had a wonderful time pulling memories and anecdotes from our life and shaping them into interesting, well-crafted stories. It doesn’t matter if you have much writing experience or not … when it comes to writing memoir, your own unique voice is of far more value than some fancy-shmancy Booker Prize novelist! We’ll learn how to use detail, emotion and plain-speaking to create a record of our adventures—a ‘masterwork’ that you can keep adding to over the years. Featuring some of Canada’s brightest literary starts, the North Shore Writers Festival is returning for its ninth yearFrom humour to French history to medical thrillers to great non-fiction, there is truly something for everyone at this fabulous festival, featuring headliners William Deverell and Sandra Gulland, plus lots more. Poetry: max. 3 poems or 150 lines | Fiction: max. 4,000 words

There will be blind judging, therefore, do not put your name or address on entry submission, but enclose a cover sheet with your name, address, phone number and title(s) of entry. Entries must be typed on 8.5 X 11 white paper. Prose must be double-spaced. Each entry must be original, unpublished, not submitted or accepted elsewhere for publication and not entered simultaneously in any other contest or competition.

Far Horizons Award for Poetry The Malahat Review, Canada’s premier literary magazine, invites emerging poets from Canada, the United States, and elsewhere to enter the 2008 Far Horizons Award for Poetry. Eligible poets have yet to publish their poetry in book form (a book of poetry is defined to have a length of 48 pages or more). One prize of $500 (CAD) is awarded, plus payment at the rate of $40 (CAD) per printed page upon publication. Poets contributing to The Malahat Review have won or been nominated for National Magazine Awards for Poetry and the Pushcart Prize. 2008 Deadline The next deadline for the Far Horizons Award for Poetry is May 1, 2008 (postmark date). • Emerging poets may enter up to three poems per entry.
• Each poem may not exceed 60 lines.
• No restrictions as to subject matter or aesthetic approach apply.
• Entry fee required:
• $25 CAD for Canadian entries;
• $30 US for American entries;
• $35 US for entries from Mexico and outside North America.
• Entrants receive a one-year subscription to The Malahat Review for themselves or a friend.
